GREEN NEW DEAL: DEVELOPING LABOUR POLICY
Speaker: Simon Youel of Labour for a Green New Deal, + workshops.

In recent months activists and young people have brought environmental catastrophe and climate change to the forefront of the political agenda. Following on from the Extinction Rebellion protests and a series of ongoing school strikes, on May 1st Parliament passed a motion, tabled by Jeremy Corbyn, to declare an environment and climate emergency.

Labour For a New Green Deal is a campaign group aiming ‘to put the labour movement at the forefront of a green transformation in Britain, and to build grassroots support for a Green New Deal within the Labour party.’ Beginning from the understanding that, ‘climate change is fundamentally about class, because it means chaos for the many while the few profit’, they propose that a Green New Deal should combine economic and environmental demands, including: ‘a region-specific green jobs guarantee, a significant expansion of public ownership and democratic control of industry’, as well as ‘mass investment in public infrastructure realising the full power of the state to decarbonise the economy and create hundreds of thousands of green jobs in struggling towns and cities’.

All DaWN Labour Party Members are warmly invited to attend.
