Labour's Green New Deal for Scotland & Beyond

  • Unite Scotland, John Smith House 145-165 West Regent Street G24RZ Scotland (map)

We need a Green New Deal that will create an economy run democratically for people and for the planet – not for profit.

Come and join this workshop and political education event for Labour members. We’ll be discussing the possibilities and priorities for Labour's Green New Deal. Topics will include:

• What do green jobs in a green economy look like?
• What does a Green New Deal mean for Scotland?
• How do we build international support for a Green New Deal?
• What should a just transition look like?
• How do we make the Green New Deal democratic?
• How do increase recognition that climate change is a class issue?

The focus of the event will be on participation, discussion and learning to put together a Glasgow manifesto for securing a Green New Deal.

No experience or in-depth knowledge about environmental issues or the Green New Deal is required – everyone will have something to contribute and learn.

We’ll also be joined by:
• Ewan Kerr – Lecturer in Politics at Glasgow Caledonian University
• Hazel Nolan – GMB - Personal Capacity
• Kate Whitaker – Friends of the Earth, Scotland

The meeting room is accessible by a lift, and there are accessible toilets. We’ll be taking an access break halfway through the workshop. Please bring your own snacks/lunch and refreshments.

Children are welcome to attend – we won’t have a separate creche but there will be an area of the room for colouring in, playing and reading!

The venue will open at 10.30am, starting at 11am.
