A Just, Green Recovery

Amid growing calls for a Green New Deal to rebuild the UK post-pandemic, Labour launched a consultation on its plan for a just and green recovery in May of this year.

Just under 2,000 people submitted responses – and an incredible 1,400 of those endorsed our proposals for a socialist Green New Deal in a new post-Covid social settlement. Read our policy submissions and petition below.

Our policy submissions

The coronavirus crisis has shattered the lie that radical political and economic change isn’t possible. With millions unemployed and the Arctic burning, the case for a Green New Deal - rooted in public ownership, rapid decarbonisation and climate justice - has never been stronger. You will find below some of Labour for a Green New Deal’s proposals for a green recovery and transformed society post-covid, working for people and planet. These were submitted by our campaign to the consultations run by Ed Miliband and Labour’s National Policy Forum.

Labour for a Green New Deal believes that conference is sovereign and Labour as a democratic socialist party must advance its resolutions. These documents are intended as additional ideas for the socialist Green New Deal the party must advance.

From home insulation to tree planting, we need to invest in new green industries to rapidly decarbonise our economy. We need those jobs to be well-paid, unionised, and in the public sector.

Our neoliberal food and agriculture system left the shelves empty while destroying the soil, and helping to unleash this pandemic. We need a National Food Service to ensure the long-term health of everyone.
