Dispatch from the campaign #4

John McDonnell has shared that Labour is now exploring ways to bring down the party’s decarbonisation target to 2030. We know the energy for this is there among the grassroots, and it’s great to see a response - now policy makers must catch up.

We’re gaining momentum passing our conference motion in our CLPs and Trade Union branches. We want a radical Green New Deal to be top of the agenda, and for this to happen we need as many submissions as possible. Let us know if you want to pass it and if you’d like some support to do so.

What's been happening?

  • Bradford East CLP and Southend West CLP are sending our motion to conference!

  • North Norfolk CLP, Oswestry and District Branch, Northfield Branch and Chalford and Painswick Branch have passed our GND motion! Get a copy of it here.

  • Edinburgh Labour hosted a screening of Before the Flood followed by a panel discussion on the local potential of a radical Green New Deal. Speakers included Claudia Beamish, Scottish Labour’s Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Spokesperson.

Updates from Local Groups and Organisers

  • It’s been a big week for Birmingham Labour for a Green New Deal! Just a week after their launch meeting, activists were part of a successful demonstration pushing Birmingham City Council to declare a Climate Emergency and adopt a net zero emissions target of 2030. We’re one step closer! Join Birmingham LGND and keep up with their progress.

  • We had exciting news from West Delyn, where Lynn Bartlett, one of our local activists, submitted the LGND conference motion (her first!) to her branch. It passed, and is being sent to Delyn CLP in July to be considered for conference. She was elected as branch secretary, too!
