Dispatch from the campaign #8
This week we have great news of MPs and PPCs supporting our campaign, more CLPs sending our motion to conference, and exciting opportunities for volunteers to join the team!
Last week Common Wealth launched their Road Map to a Green New Deal, and a brilliant series of reports on finance have followed in the last few days. A plan for radical transformation is taking shape, and the labour movement must be at its heart. Read our co-founder Angus Satow’s response here.
With just two months to go, the countdown to conference is on! CLPs can submit their motion until Thursday 12 September. If you want to pass it, let us know. Get in touch if you’re going to be in Brighton. And don’t forget your ticket for The World Transformed!
What’s been happening?
Last Saturday over 650 people met at Labour’s Green Industrial Revolution events across the country. We spoke at Colne Valley Green Industrial Revolution Festival in Slaithwaite, joining local trade unionists, community campaigners and politicians to discuss how we can build a Green Industrial Revolution.
• Taunton Deane, Romsey & Southampton North and Windsor have joined the list of CLPs sending our motion to conference!
• Bromsgrove CLP, Lewisham West & Penge CLP, Lenton & Wollaton East branch and Chapel Allerton branch have passed our general motion! Get a copy of it to pass in your branch or CLP here.
Catch up with - Bristol Labour for a Green New Deal
This week we’ve spoken to Paul from Bristol and the West Labour for a Green New Deal about how our campaign has grown in their region, and what’s up next -
“The group has been up and running since early April. We decided to focus on getting our motion passed by all local CLPS and getting as many as possible to adopt it as their conference motion. So far Kingswood CLP, East Bristol CLP and Bristol West CLP are sending this to conference, with other CLPs voting soon!
We have also been getting local MPs, the city mayor, prospective parliamentary candidates and councillors to sign a Green New Deal Pledge in support of the motion and its key aims. 3 Bristol MPs, the mayor, deputy mayor and over 50 sittings councillors and newly elected candidates have signed up so far and many more who have agreed to do so.
The group’s next focus is engaging with local Trade Unions to get local groups to agree to support our workers based Green New Deal.”
If you would like some guidance on how you can do the same in your constituency, get in touch with our Local Groups Support Team at firstname.lastname@example.org. MPs and PPCs everywhere who want to sign our pledge, get in touch!
Labour for a Green New Deal in the media
Only a mass movement can bring about a Green New Deal and Sadiq Khan should make corporations pay for emissions, not workers says Alex McIntyre here in Labour List
