Dispatch from the campaign #12

Welcome to everyone who joined us this week! In today’s dispatch we have updates from local organisers and great news about endorsements of our campaign.

Ed Miliband MP is backing our radical Green New Deal, and has called on other MPs to do the same! Watch his video here and below:

From the grassroots to national level, support for a radical Green New Deal is growing. We want to be top of the agenda at conference, so we need as much support for our motion as possible. CLPs can submit theirs until 12 September, so there’s still time to pass it in yours! If you want to, let us know

We’re raising money to enable us to provide resources and support for our activists and local groups. If you’re able to help out, make a donation here. Everything we receive will be invested into building our movement and winning a radical Green New Deal.

Motions

  • Montgomeryshire, Bracknell, Tamworth, Clwyd West, Maidenhead and Welwyn Hatfield CLPs are sending our motion to conference! There’s still time to pass it in your trade union branch or CLP. Get a copy of it here labourgnd.uk/motions.

Catch up with – Glasgow Labour for a Green New Deal

Glasgow LGND are looking forward to their next meeting on 20 August. Kim has spoken to us about how the group got up and running and what their plans are –

Glasgow LGND kicked off in July, with 30 trade unionists, Labour members and activists attending a workshop to explore what a Green New Deal would like for Scotland and beyond. There was a clear steer towards campaigning on local, national and international climate justice issues.

Since then, we’ve held our first organising meeting, where we started to turn these ideas into a plan for action.

Locally, we’ll start by focusing on Glasgow’s overpriced and inadequate bus service. With the First Group putting its Glasgow operations up for sale, we have an opportunity to shape a more radical and green form of public ownership of our transport systems.

We’re also looking to organise events with trade unions in the Global South, to listen and learn from the great work and campaigning they’ve been doing in relation to climate justice. We’ll also be supporting the climate strike in September.

This is just the start for Glasgow in campaigning for a radical, socialist Green New Deal in Glasgow. Get in touch on social media or at glasgowlgnd@gmail.com and come along to our next organising meeting on 20 August!”
